How to Kill/ Prepare/ Clean/ Deshell Live Mud Crabs aka Sri Lankan Crabs.


We find it more satisfying to cook up a recipe we find seemingly impossible to execute. Singaporeans love Crabs - chilli crab, salted egg crab, crab beehoon, butter crab, etc. Yet, preparing a mud crab meal at home is usually a terror for many especially killing a live crab. Here's a video of how it can be done. The killing process is quick but can be a little terrorizing or inhumane for some. GoFresh suggests to put the crabs to "sleep" by chilling them in the coldest compartment in your refrigerator for about 20 - 30 minutes. Once you are sure they are in "coma", you may proceed to clean and de-shell the crabs.
